Company Sector: Agriculture
Company Structure: Limited
Trading Start Date: 1947

About the Company

Messrs J McXXXX is a dairy farm located at XXXX which started trading in 1947. The partnership has been owned and run by the family since its inception and is a long-established member of the local area.

With David McXXXX becoming the majority partner in 2012, sustainability and the future security of the business came into focus as part of his long-term business plan for the company. It has always been his ambition to invite the public onto the farm to create a link between food production and consumption in order to educate people on the origin of their food.

The business planned to diversify from a traditional farm into a Farm Centre. The planned centre will comprise a soft play, cafe, retail area and a small farm shop. As well as this, a small farm park and petting farm will be developed.

The project will be built on land owned by the family and had already been approved for planning permission. The farm centre will be a cutting-edge tourist attraction which will help to strengthen Dumfries and Galloway’s reputation as a leading tourist destination.

What is the Challenge?

To bring together the plans for the farm and the diversification programme into a robust investor-ready business plan.
